With rising energy costs and growing concerns about the environment people are becoming very interested in renewable energy. What was once a curiosity for most of us has suddenly become a very popular topic of conversation and there are now many books promoting solar and wind energy as a solution to high energy costs and global warming.

Green DIY Energy is a complete do it yourself guide for those interested in learning how to build their own solar and wind energy systems. This is an easy to follow manual detailing step by step how to construct solar energy systems and wind turbines to eliminate or reduce electric bills.

But, wouldn’t it be great if you were able to do something that would allow you to get the same amount of benefit for a fraction of the cost or time required to install these other energy sources?

How? This is the question that many people are asking because everyone is programmed to believe that turning down the thermostat so that you freeze in your own home and adding a thin layer of insulation to your water heater are the smart things to do!

But you’re not interested in anything that takes a lot of time, money or effort. Peter Lindemann has been educating thousands of people over the years in various methods that save on home energy.

Solar Water Heaters

DIY Solar Water Heater Solar water heaters have been used for hundreds of years and is not a new technology. DIY Solar Water Heater is a 90 page do it yourself guide for homeowners which illustrates how to construct a solar water heater. The book provides several easy to follow plans so you can select the one that best suits your requirements. Buying a manufactured solar water heater will cost over a thousand dollars. Using the materials in this manual will cost less than 70 dollars and the payback on your investment may be as little as a couple of months compared to a couple of years for commercial equipment.

Save on Home Energy Review

Save On Home Energy was written by Peter Lindemann who has 35 years of experience in green energy technologies and he is a big advocate of alternative energy. This 95 page manual guides you through 8 categories of energy consumption and provides step by step details describing how to reduce energy use for each category.

I have a background is in the Heating, Air Conditioning, Ventilation and Refrigeration industry and I know more about how to be energy efficient than most. I have also worked as a subcontractor for a local utility company, servicing and installing new rental water heaters and I have to say that I was very surprised and impressed with the information that I found in this manual. There are many great strategies for conserving energy that I was completely unaware of.

So What Does “Save On Home Energy” Offer

  • The Save On Home Energy Manual – 17 chapters detailing step by step how to reduce energy consumption in your home by 50% or more.
  • Free Updates – Every time there are updates to the manual you will be notified and have immediate access to these updates.
  • Video Tutorials – My personal favourite is the hot water heater video.
  • Forum Membership – Possibly the most valuable item. Membership to the alternative energy forum where you can ask questions.
  • 60 Day Guarantee – You can put these strategies to the test for 60 days risk free.

What’s in the manual

The Save On Home Energy manual is divided into 17 chapters that will take you step by step through valuable information that will save you money, beginning with the strategies that will have the biggest impact on reducing energy consumption in your home. These are not the usual tips you are used to hearing about, like lowering the thermostat setting in winter or install more energy efficient windows. These are things that you can do very easily and don’t require any special skills. I have to say I am very surprised by some of the information this material has to offer.

  • Chapter five looks at home energy audits and how you can do your own energy audit. Home energy audits are very important and will help you determine where your home is wasting energy and what you will need to do to correct these problems.
  • Energy consumption is divided into 8 major categories. Air Conditioning, Space Heating, Appliances, Water Heating, Lighting, Home Electronics, Laundry and a couple others.
  • An interesting fact that I learned is that power companies are only about 50% efficient. That means that they produce two watts of energy for every watt they deliver to you. So for every watt you are able to reduce your energy consumption, the demand on the power company is reduced by two watts. If your motivation is to help save the environment, your efforts are doubled for each unit you are able to reduce consumption.
  • Peter really dives into some important information that is really very simple to understand when explained properly. This is one of the most important chapters of the book and will enable you to better understand where your highest energy consumption is and how to make some very important changes that will have a major impact.
  • A look at heating and cooling costs and how to reduce them by half. Now you may be expecting a recommendation to upgrade your equipment but that is not the number one recommendation. Reduce your energy bill by 15% just by making some simple changes in your home that have a major impact on your heating and air conditioning use. There are eight areas of interest covered here and details on how to correct any problems that you may find.
  • Lighting accounts for about 13% of the energy consumed in most homes. I don’t know about your kids, but mine don’t seam to know how to turn lights off so maybe it is even more than 13%. In this section Peter discusses the different types of lighting products, how they work and which ones provide the best light, which ones last the longest and what’s next in this evolving market. Some of the concerns about CFL lights are covered here and he also addresses some of the misinformation that we get from the media.
  • Tax Credits and Rebates that you may qualify for when implementing these strategies as well as how to claim these credits and some frequently asked questions relating to them. These are often not widely publicized but can add up to substantial savings.
  • The manual also provides links to many charts, graphs and tables to compare current average energy consumption to and details what is possible after implementing some of these simple but not so obvious changes.

This is one of the best and most informative sources of information I have ever read on this topic. I highly recommend you get a copy of Save On Home Energy for yourself.

Updates to the manual are yours when they become available

This is great value for your investment. This is also one of the reasons I prefer e-books instead of print books. Many authors offer updates when new information or strategies become available. This keeps you on the leading edge of energy conservation strategies and enables you to learn new information as it becomes available.

Step by step video instructions

Many of us learn better by seeing and doing rather than reading. My favorite strategy in the manual just happens to be a 45 minute video. This is also a strategy that I have been using myself for many years to reduce water heating by 20%. Using the methods in the manual and video I have improved on my own methods and now save three times that.

Alternative energy membership forum

Membership forums are great sources of valuable information and offer support for whatever topic you may be interested in. Many of the best forums have monthly membership fees. This one is available to you as a bonus.

Try it for 60 days, risk free

This is something that a print book does not offer. Peter believes in his manual so strongly that he offers a 60 day trial so you can be certain that the information you get from the manual accomplishes exactly what he says. That’s quite an offer and it removes all risk on your part. You have nothing to loose by trying it.

Just applying what you learn about water heaters will easily save you enough to cover the cost of the manual in less than 2 months. I went straight to the second video because I was already familiar with this one. I have to say the way I was doing this particular improvement was really missing the mark. The method shown here triples the improvement I was previously getting from this strategy.

Your probably expecting recommendations to upgrade your heating and cooling equipment or tear your walls apart to add insulation but the recommendations in this manual are easy to do, don’t require major construction and are really surprisingly easy to implement. Most are just things that the average person just doesn’t know about. I work in the heating, air conditioning and refrigeration industry and I have to say many of these improvements were a complete surprise to me. This is some crazy stuff that I never dreamed of and can lead to huge savings.

Peter looks at each category of energy consumption separately because each has it’s own unique problems, and then shows you how to save the most from the biggest energy consumers first, so you can make the biggest improvements first. From there he goes on to show you how to save energy in every category so you can pick the ones that are right for you.

Like me, Peter thinks solar and wind energy is the wave of the future. But he also believes that future will arrive sooner if we get serious about using energy more efficiently. He shows how to reduce your energy consumption without changing your lifestyle.
